Vacation Engagement

With the arrival of the vacation season for many areas around the world, we wanted to provide a list of fun lesson ideas to help keep your learners engaged. Many students may return to their home country or travel for vacation, and they will be in a fun, relaxed mindset; here are some ideas that go along with that.
Students can show and describe their house, their vacation rental, their hometown, their family, and friends, etc. through a video call or pictures.
A 30-minute storytime for younger children with pictures and interaction with the teacher.
Select a game to promote fun learning and interaction such as Scattergories, Hedbandz, Tutti Frutti, Apples to Apples, Pictionary, Charades, etc. Optional: Include the students’ friends and family for added fun!
Watch Olympics events (or other sporting events) together and enjoy a fun discussion! Discuss favorite athletes from their home country.
30 minutes weekly to catch up with your student about the previous week’s activities.
Choose a great book and discuss one chapter a week.
Challenge your students to see how they can use the target language in their hometown or on vacation and have a lesson at the end of each week to discuss the findings.
Role-play various types of phone calls with the students. Some examples include making a reservation, ordering at a restaurant, making an appointment at a doctor’s office, or calling the child’s school.
Give your students a list of things they need to find and discuss their findings. Examples of things to find:
-
Something that floats, makes noise, sticks, etc.
-
Something you can twist, fold, turn, etc.
-
Three things that have wheels
-
Two socks that don’t match
Change up the difficulty based on your student’s level.

Attendees were happy to share their favorite websites, podcasts, and books, and gave tips for utilizing them in an online environment. Be sure to join us for these monthly discussions on the second Friday of every month. Teachers of all languages are welcome to attend.

Virtual Experiences (VE) for Teachers
The Virtual Experiences hosted by our teachers were a great success! Thank you to our VE teachers Yoko, Miguel, and Maria. Many thanks also to the teachers who placed themselves in the role of the learners for these events!
Several of our teachers from around the globe attended our Japanese Origami Virtual Experience, hosted by the amazing Yoko. In addition to learning some basic Japanese, learning about the history of origami and its meditative qualities, everyone successfully made origami models of a cat, a rabbit, and a bird. Thanks, Yoko! |
世界各国の先生方に、洋子先生がが主催する「日本の折り紙バーチャル体験」に参加していただきました。 |
Our teacher Miguel hosted two Spanish virtual experiences. In addition to demonstrating how to make a traditional Margarita, he taught attendees cultural facts about Mexico. Thanks to all those who attended and of course, thanks to Miguel! |
Miguel condujo dos experiencias virtuales en las cuales les mostró a los maestros cómo preprar un margarita típico y les enseñó acerca de la cultura de México, ¡todo en español! |
Several teachers joined Maria for her German baking experience and learned new vocabulary, all while baking a lemon cake. That cake smelled good even virtually! |
Mehrere Lehrkräfte nahmen an Maria’s virtuellen Veranstaltung über deutsches Gebäck statt, und lernten neues Vokabular während ein Zitronenkuchen gebacken wurde. Der Kuchen roch sogar virtuell gut! |
Language and Culture Virtual Experiences
Global LT is proud to offer students a diverse learning path to promote experiential learning. We know their interest-driven learning path begins with our teachers! We believe in providing the best teachers and the best options to create a unique and custom language learning experience for our students.
Learning Hours Used
Did you know that students currently only use about 60% of their total available learning hours? Imagine how much learning is lost! Rather than losing those hours, we encourage students to attend virtual events in addition to instructor-led lessons with their one-on-one teacher.

Virtual Experiences Benefits
Virtual events, experiences, and webinars enable students to:
-
Practice the language skills they acquired during one-on-one lessons.
-
Participate in social gatherings that reflect their interests.
-
Increase their language skills in a social learning environment.
-
Increase their motivation and engagement in their language training.
-
Engage in diverse cultural experiences.
-
Gain even more confidence in their listening and speaking skills.
-
Come back to their teacher asking for even more learning!
Virtual events are an excellent way for students to use more of their language training hours and learn even more!
VE Promotion
Many thanks to all our teachers who are encouraging learners to participate in Global LT’s Virtual Learning Experiences . We have many fun and unique events planned in multiple languages for children, adults, and families. There is something for everyone…art, cooking, culture, tips for living in a new country, wine tastings, business webinars, yoga classes, and much more!
These events are immersive and experiential, allowing students to connect with other learners while continuing to progress in their language learning journey, especially during this vacation season when regular lessons may be less consistent.
Our teachers work hard to offer relevant and interest-driven one-on-one lessons and see the multiple benefits of live virtual events for their students. As a thank you for your continued dedication to the learning success of your students, Global LT frequently offers incentives to teachers. Ask your TSC about our current teacher incentives to promote VE.
Find the VE that is right for your students today!
Don’t see the VE that is right for your students? Message your TSC to request the events your students need! Thank you for being part of the Global LT experiential learning team!
Teacher Recognition – Special Thank You
A very special thank you to our German teacher Banu Kilicarslan who has been teaching with us for about one year now. Within this time, Banu has taught over 35 classes and not only successfully helped her students achieve their goals, but also contributed as a participant in various webinars and training Global LT provides; she also takes part in the language exchange program. Banu is always looking for ways to improve her skills and everyone who gets to work with her expresses what a delight she is to work with.

Banu went to primary school in Germany and now lives in Turkey. She particularly enjoys helping her students prepare for the official exams. She recently managed to help one of her students accomplish the A2 level within 50 hours while the initial aim was to reach A1. What an achievement – thank you Banu! Banu emphasizes that communication with the student is very important to help them achieve their goals.
When asked about her professional goals, Banu mentioned she would like to improve on online courses and be able to make them more effective. She also mentioned that the Language Exchange Program offered by Global LT is an option that can meet the needs of students of all levels with its versatile and rich course materials. Banu has been participating since May and finds it great. She says: “It is really nice and creative to learn another language that I want to learn while I am teaching German in exchange. It’s my dream to teach in the country of the language I am learning in the Language Exchange Program. It is a great feeling that the institution supports me professionally while I am enjoying my lessons at Global LT.”
Thank you, Banu, for being such a great teacher to our clients and for all your contributions in the last year! Here is to many more years!
Teacher Recognition – Great Student Feedback
We wanted to send out a special thank you to our teachers Lucy and Paula who have received great feedback from their students.

Lucy Niemczycki lives in Rochester Hills, Michigan, in the US with her husband Ed. They have three adult children and FIVE beautiful, boisterous grandchildren who are their pride and joy! Her other love, TEACHING, has spanned over 40 years, 28 of them with Global LT., which she says have provided her with the most rewarding opportunities to educate truly wonderful students. In her free time, Lucy enjoys reading, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Lucy’s students report that it is a pleasure to work with her and that she is a wonderful, open-minded person who helped improve the students’ language skills which in turn increased their self-confidence in conversations.
When we shared some of the students' feedback with Lucy she responded, “I teach my students as I would my own family members with purpose, compassion, and whole-hearted interest in their learning. I've found it to be not only effective but extremely rewarding to me.” What a wonderful approach! Thank you, Lucy, for everything you do for your students!

Paula Oliveri was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She lived in the state of Colorado, in the US for three years, where she had her first experience teaching Spanish at Colorado Mountain College. She has been teaching Spanish for 20 years now. During her free time, Paula enjoys listening to music, reading, playing tennis, riding her bicycle, and traveling! She loves to learn new languages and she has been teaching herself Italian for the past 10 years. She can speak it well, but she continues studying to perfect it!
One of Paula’s students mentioned that they had the opportunity to work with various language instructors in the past and the experience with Paula had been the best by far. Her students say that her teaching techniques are very effective and engaging. They improved their language comprehension skills considerably in the workplace which changed their day-to-day working experience. Paula’s students feel she is invested in their success, and this is very much appreciated. Thank you, Paula!
